This countryside retreat envisioned by follow MDS impresses as a consequence of its unique form and inside design. Located within the foothills of the Yatsugatake mountains, in a local weather that isn’t too scorching in the summertime nor too chilly within the winter, the residence displays a serene life, away from the hustle and bustle of the town. According to Designboom, the challenge was developed through the use of three adjoining volumes of various heights, with overhangs for controlling pure mild and warmth depth.
Wood is the defining factor for the interiors, seen within the uncovered beams, flooring and window frames. Cross-air flow is ensured via strategically positioned home windows. Two slender terraces sheltered beneath the roof overhangs contribute to the constructing’s originality. “The fan-formed design – opening to the south – means loads of solar streams in through the chilly winters: regardless of the time of day there’s all the time a spot to bask within the solar”, defined architects Kiyotoshi Mori and Natsuko Kawamura. photographs © Toshiyuki Yano
